Manchester Airport is only 20 minutes’ drive from Manchester City Centre and has a convenient link road directly from the M56 motorway. The airport sees 19 million passengers flying to approximately 170 destinations a year. Manchester airport charges a minimum of £2.50 to pick-up passengers and charges a non-refundable £1 for trolley hire.
By car - on the M56 motorway, Manchester Airport has a dedicated link road from the motorway at junction 5. Directions to Terminals are well-signposted from all approach roads (including the proximal M62 and M6 motorways), with colour-coded cubes on the link road indicating the best route to each Terminal and its car parks. Check which Terminal you fly from before arrival.
Airport facilities - Bureaux de Change, Cash dispensers, Information desk, left-luggage, Multi-faith prayer room, ‘Ambulifts’ and wheelchairs are available on request. Baby changing facilities next to or inside all female toilets in all three Terminals, with many restaurants offering children's food with high chairs available on request. There is an excellent range of high street names in all Terminals, with some gift, accessory and fashion shops exclusive to each Terminal. There are “food villages” in Terminals 1 and 2, where several outlets selling hot and cold drinks and snacks can be found, while the bar, continental outlet and coffee shop in Terminal 3 provides a great choice in hunger-breaking snacks and small meals.
Hotels - there are twenty five hotels on-airport and in the near surrounding areas. Offering convenient accommodation when flying out on an early flight or returning back in on a late night flight.
MANCHESTER AIRPORT CAR RENTAL INFORMATION
There are 9 care hire options available from all three Terminals at Manchester Airport. You can collect your car keys at the provider’s desk and then they will direct you to your car. Some renters offer a meet and greet service, but these are marginally more expensive.
With advance booking, you should be able to get hold of the car you require. Because Manchester Airport is one of the larger British airports, you’ll be able to specify most models, from small to 7 and 9-seater people carriers. There are even minibus and luxury vehicle renters at Manchester, but do check in advance. You should also advise whether you require disabled driver controls, child seats, and check whether the model you require has satellite navigation, if you need it.
It is often best to reserve your car in advance, because you can complete your paperwork before you arrive at the airport and save yourself valuable time when you arrive at the airport, particularly useful if you have small children.
However, if you can’t book in advance, you will still be able to arrange your car at the rental desk when you arrive. Some of the rental companies do have dedicated booking apps for mobile smartphones that you can use, but if you do actually phone them from your mobile, be aware that telephone numbers beginning with 08 are charged at a premium rate to mobiles in the UK, which can work out costly for you.
Do ask your rental agent to accompany you on a pre-delivery inspection of the car to identify any prior damage that might already have been done and which the rental company might try to charge you for having caused at the end of your rental. Make sure a note is taken, and check all your documentation to ensure that the sums add up and that there are no unexpected charges appearing on your rental invoice. Some rental companies may add the airport access charge they have to pay the airport, to the foot of your invoice.
And don’t forget your ID, driving licence (both parts if applicable) and credit/debit card.
And when you leave the airport, remember that the UK drives on the left and overtakes on the right, with clockwise roundabouts! The main exit routes from the airport will see you driving on motorways straightaway, so watch for fast traffic from your right as you enter the motorway and follow the speed signs which on some motorway routes from the airport are below the 70mph national maximum.
